Container Traffic Through Aqaba Port Rises 20% in First Ten Months

10-11-2025 01:13 PM

Ammon News - Container throughput at Aqaba Container Terminal rose by 20.15% in the first ten months of 2025 compared with the same period last year, according to figures released by the Jordan Logistics Association.

Inbound containers reached 416,288 between January and October, up from 346,454 in the corresponding period of 2024. Outbound shipments also climbed 7.55%, with 94,598 containers exported compared with 87,956 a year earlier.

In October alone, inbound container volumes surged 39.9% year-on-year to 45,680, while outbound traffic increased 24.5% to 11,471.

Association president Nabil Al-Khatib said the rise in shipping activity reflects growing trade flows and steady demand for both import and export cargo, including transit goods moving through Jordan to regional markets.

"Despite regional challenges, maritime activity at Aqaba has maintained its upward trajectory since the start of the year," Al-Khatib told Petra, noting that higher export volumes are a key driver of the momentum.

Al-Khatib, who also serves as first vice president of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, said the growth in port traffic is expected to have a positive spillover effect on other sectors, particularly transport and logistics, which are "central to the overall economic cycle."

The Jordan Logistics Association, established in 2007, represents freight forwarders and logistics providers and is a member of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
