Arab league summit in Baghdad

Ammon News - The 34th Arab League Summit convened in Baghdad, Iraq, on May 17, 2025, marking a significant moment in regional diplomacy. Presided over by Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, the summit brought together representatives from 20 of the 22 member states, with absence of number of Arab leaders.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza dominated the summit's agenda. Arab leaders collectively condemned Israel's intensified military actions, which have resulted in significant Palestinian casualties and displacement.

Humanitarian and Reconstruction Efforts
In response to the humanitarian crisis, Iraq pledged $40 million for the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon. The summit emphasized the delivery of aid without conditions and condemned any forced displacement of Palestinians.

Syria's Participation and Regional Dynamics
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa declined the invitation to attend the summit, citing political divisions stemming from his past affiliations. Instead, Syria was represented by its foreign minister. The summit also addressed regional issues, including support for Iran-U.S. nuclear negotiations and the condemnation of Israeli attacks on Syria.
