Ammon News - Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh expressed profound sorrow over the passing of prominent Jordanian artist Hisham Yanes, who passed away on Sunday evening following a protracted struggle with illness.
In a ministry statement, Rawashdeh noted that the Jordanian art scene has lost a significant figure, whose distinctive body of work became closely associated with his creative persona.
He emphasized the contributions of the late artist to his Jordanian and Arab audiences through his remarkable career in theater and drama, as well as his work in educational and dramatic productions that he wrote and authored.
The minister extended his condolences to Yanes' family, his artistic community, and his friends and admirers in Jordan and across the Arab world. He highlighted the importance of Yanes’ artistic journey and its role in fostering awareness and enlightenment through theater and drama, which carried the messages of an educated artist to a wide and diverse audience.
Rawashdeh specifically referenced the educational program "Al-Manahil", written by Yanes, which became a cherished part of the Jordanian and Arab children’s cultural memory.
Hisham Yanes rose to fame in the early 1980s with his critically acclaimed comedic roles. He contributed to numerous dramatic works and collaborated with renowned artists such as Nabil Sawalha and Amal Dabbas in creating politically and socially conscious plays. In recognition of his contributions, His Majesty King Abdullah awarded him the Al-Hussein Medal of the Second Order in 2013.
