Ammon News - Today in Barcelona, the 9th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is taking place, chaired by Jordan and the European Union. Foreign ministers of UfM countries are meeting to address pressing regional challenges, focusing on the concerning situation in the Middle East.
The ministers will also talk about tackling the organization's reform, which began in 2023, as the meeting will offer a chance to share ideas on how to progress on these matters together amidst regional tensions.
The event will be attended by delegates from all 43 UfM member countries and will be led by Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, along with Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain José Manuel Albares hosts the event, while the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan represents the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, and HRH Princess Rym Ali is the President of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
The 9th UfM Regional Forum follows the Euro-Mediterranean Civil Society Conference, which was arranged by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed).
The UfM is a group of 43 countries that works together to encourage cooperation and communication through projects that focus on sustainable development, stability, and integration in the Euro-Mediterranean area.
