UN: We will remain a dedicated partner to Jordan

Ammon News - On Thursday, Sherry Ritsema-Anderson, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jordan, stated that the United Nations will continue to support Jordan in assisting Palestinian and Syrian refugees hosted by the Kingdom, as well as provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.

In a statement for United Nations Day on October 24th each year, she mentioned that the United Nations and its agencies in Jordan assist Jordan in achieving peace, resilience, and shared prosperity.

He noted that the United Nations agencies' efforts are in complete harmony with Jordan's national goals and are closely connected to the country's three paths of modernization: political, economic, and administrative reforms.

According to Ritsema-Anderson, the United Nations agencies, along with the government and national partners, aid in advancing education, agriculture, and food security; promoting job creation, industrial innovation, and economic empowerment of youth, women, and people with disabilities; enhancing urban planning and local governance; and preserving biodiversity and cultural heritage.

She continued by stating that the 29 UN agencies in Jordan fully support and are dedicated to helping the Kingdom and its people achieve common objectives, despite the difficult regional circumstances. We acknowledge these difficulties, but we are united in our dedication to promoting development and peace in Jordan, a top priority for the United Nations.

Today, we celebrate the 79th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, underscoring its ongoing significance in advancing worldwide peace, growth, and collaboration. The UN official stated that ever since it was established in 1945, the United Nations has remained a crucial forum for the global community to address shared issues like poverty, inequality, and climate change.

She also mentioned that the current UN Day is taking place during a terrible outbreak of violence and bloodshed in the Middle East since October 7, 2023, causing a cycle of escalation. She stated that observing this day demonstrates and confirms the UN's accomplishments and impact despite the challenging circumstances. She emphasized the importance of this day in highlighting the collective duty of governments, the UN, civil society, local communities, and individuals to collaborate in creating a more equal and successful future. It is up to each of us to contribute to building a better world.
