Ammon News - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot on the eve of the International Conference in Support of Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty, organized by France on Thursday.
The two ministers discussed efforts to stop the dangerous escalation in the region, reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and end Israel's illegal escalatory measures against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
They also discussed the expected outcomes of the International Conference in Support of Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty, which is being held upon an initiative from French President Emmanuel Macron.
During the meeting, Safadi, who is also deputy prime minister, stressed the importance of the conference in mobilizing international support for an immediate ceasefire and implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1707 and in intensifying efforts to deliver humanitarian support to more than 1.2 million Lebanese displaced by Israel from their areas and homes.
Safadi also underlined the need to launch an immediate and effective international action to stop the aggression on Gaza, which is causing a humanitarian catastrophe whose brutality and inhumanity have been manifested in the past weeks in northern Gaza, where Israel is depriving the people of the area of food and medicine and practicing ethnic cleansing in a war crime in addition to other war crimes.
Safadi underscored the importance of France's role in these efforts and valued its decision to stop the export of weapons to the Israeli occupation, which are used in the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and its clear position in calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.
Safadi and Barrot, who is France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, discussed the existing cooperation with regard to efforts to deliver aid to Gaza and ways to expand them.
The two ministers also covered ways to enhance the long-standing friendship between the two countries and increase cooperation in several fields.
Safadi and Barrot went through a number of regional and international issues.
