Ammon News - Musa Al-Subaihi, a specialist in insurance and social protection, clarified the Mayor of Amman, Dr. Yousef Al-Shawarbeh's choice to distribute bonuses in a distinct voucher for employees on the daily wage system at the Greater Amman Municipality.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Al-Subaihi stated that several employees at the Greater Amman Municipality who are on daily wages and receive monthly salaries contacted him to express their dissatisfaction with the Mayor's decision to distribute their monthly bonuses in a separate voucher from their salary voucher.
He noted that the decision is unclear, despite a weak explanation from the Secretariat’s spokesperson yesterday evening, with workers suggesting the aim may be to exclude bonuses from total wages for social security deductions. This is a key concern mentioned in the article. He examined the names of some bonuses workers receive, and found they should be part of their wages subject to social security, benefiting them in terms of insurance benefits and future retirement salaries. He stated that based on his examination of the salary slip, one of these individuals receives approximately (830) dinars in total bonuses and allowances on top of their basic salary. Hence, the social security contributions to be taken directly from his salary (at a rate of 6.5%) should amount to around (54) dinars. However, I observed that only (30) dinars were actually deducted, indicating that a significant portion of his fixed bonuses and deductions are taken into account.
