Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, said that the last chance for a ceasefire in Gaza have been months in the making, as every day that passes by without an end to this aggression means that more people are being killed and the threat of regional escalation becoming more real, as monitored by Ammon News Agency.
In an interview with BBC radio on Monday, Safadi confirmed that the ceasefire must happen as soon as possible because failure to do so is going to mean more death more killing more destruction of Gaza and more possibilities for the all out regional escalation that no one of us want.
He also stressed that the most important thing is to stay focused on the real issue while we all don't want a regional escalation, we must also keep our eyes on what is happening in Gaza, the killing is continuous, the construction is continuous, there is where the real tragedy is, then that's what the whole world should focused in doing stop the aggression on Gaza as far as Iran is concerned, we obviously condemned the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, as a criminal escalatory act.
"In Jordan, we do not want escalation, we are trying to figure out a way in cooperation with all our partners to make sure that this escalation is not happen, and the only conclusion, the only way we believe to prevent escalation is to stop the killing in Gaza and to stop the aggression on Gaza, and then give everybody a chance to say enough is enough, lets all protect Palestinians life and to protect the region from falling into the abyss of regional war," Safadi added.
Asked whether a ceasefire would stop Iran from retaliating the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Safadi said: "I -do not speak for Iran-, but what I would to say is that our impression is that the focus on ending the aggression, if there is an ending to the aggression, if there is a ceasefire we believe that everybody will want to protect that ceasefire because that's would mean protecting Palestinians life and protecting the region as well, I believe if we get a ceasefire then the threat of escalation will really diminish, we all support a ceasefire, and we appreciate the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States of America."
All indications are that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has blocked that ceasefire and that what Israeli officials themselves are saying, and there is again evidence to support that it is Israeli Prime Minister is preventing the area from getting out from this nightmare and the efforts of pressure should be on him to have that ceasefire and what we are hearing from all our partners who engaged in the negotiations is that they are putting tremendous amount of efforts to bring out this ceasefire, Safadi noted.
"There is an absolute horror in Gaza, the victims of which are innocent people that horror has to stop and ending the horror is a decision by Netanyahu and his Cabinet, and when it comes to Hamas, and -I do not speak for Hamas-, but I think they represent a political line, they have their own positions, so I think whether is Haniyeh or Yahya Sinwar, the facts that a ceasefire is needed, its something that everybody realizes, so I really do not think that the position of Hamas to achieve a ceasefire has changed as a result of Haniyeh's assassination and Sinwar's taking over, so I think they all speech with the same position
The minister concluded his speech by saying: "We are looking at what can help, looking at what is effective, what is really ends massacre in Gaza, and also end the escalatory measures in the west Bank as well, we will do what we believe will help to achieve that and achieve a just and lasting peace that we want, so we are looking at all options including legal options."
