Ammon News - Historian Allan Lichtman remains firm on his 2024 presidential election predictions, despite current polls, citing unprecedented levels of "hate" directed towards him.
The Independent has dubbed Lichtman as the "Nostradamus" of polls for accurately forecasting nine out of ten presidential elections since 1984.
Lichtman relies on a method called "Keys to the White House" that he developed with Russian scholar Vladimir Kels-Borok in 1981 for his forecasts.
Even though recent polls indicate a close race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Lichtman remains steadfast in his belief that Democrat Harris will emerge victorious in the upcoming presidential election.
"My forecasts remain the same," stated Lichtman, a 77-year-old professor at Harvard University specializing in modern American history and quantitative methods, on his YouTube platform. I have been correct many times, even though the polls are relying on 160 years of past forecasts.
Nevertheless, Lichtman admitted that there is a possibility of being incorrect.
He stated that the keys possess great power. However, there is always a chance that an unforeseen and disastrous event could occur, altering the direction of history.
The scholar firmly supported his approach, considering 13 factors such as the president’s party's position in the House of Representatives, the state of the domestic economy, any history of scandal, social turmoil, or foreign policy blunders, and evaluating the candidates’ appeal to select the victor, using "true" or "false" assessments for each criterion.
He stated that his forecasts have been consistently accurate and his signals have stood the test of time. The keys are highly factual and numerical.
Lichtman claimed that his approach and forecasts are "totally impartial," pointing out his accurate predictions of Ronald Reagan's 1984 re-election and Trump's 2016 win as evidence.
Lichtman forecasts that Kamala Harris will emerge victorious in November, however, he shared that he has faced an unparalleled level of backlash this year for his prediction.
"I have never encountered anything resembling the level of hatred I have faced this time," he shared with NewsNation's Chris Cuomo.
"I have encountered extremely impolite and aggressive reactions, intimidation, and even threats to the safety of my family."
He observed that 8 out of 13 clues are providing accurate answers, suggesting a win for Harris and another 4 years of Democratic governance.
Lichtman mentioned that foreign policy is complex and these clues are subject to change.
The Biden administration is heavily involved in the conflict in Gaza, which is a humanitarian crisis that shows no signs of ending soon. However, even if both foreign policy switches were set to 'false', it would only result in five negative switches, which would not be sufficient for Donald Trump to win back the White House," he noted. The historian from Maryland employs 13 switches, a technique he created in 1981 with mathematician Vladimir Kellis-Borok, to forecast various factors such as economic indicators, and the charisma and personality of candidates, without relying on polls.
