Ammon News - The Lower House decided on Monday to refer the draft law agreement to ratify the amending agreement for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport between the government, represented by the Ministry of Transport and the Airport International Group (AIG) for the year 2024, to the Public Services and Transport Committee.

The government had confirmed that the agreement comes with the aim of strengthening the investment situation in Jordan and maintaining the operational stability of the aviation and air cargo sector, in accordance with the provisions of Article (117) of the Jordanian Constitution.

While Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh confirmed that the government has a stable and firm conviction that the airport agreement is flawless with regard to integrity, transparency and clarity, stressing the government’s reassurance regarding this.

In a parliamentary session on Monday, the Prime Minister added "The government believes that the agreement achieves the general interest of the state and the treasury, and the airport is a success story with regard to the partnership between the public and private sectors."

At the same time, members of the Parliament expressed their astonishment at the proposal to extend the agreement for an additional period of 5 years, eight years before its expiration date.
