Ammon News - The number of refugee families in Jordan who are unable to pay rent for their homes has increased, in light of the decrease in humanitarian aid provided, on which refugee families mainly depend.

The assessment of the "social and economic situation of refugees in Jordan" conducted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for the 4th quarter of 2023 reported that 13% of refugees do not use any source of heating, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

The percentage of families unable to pay rent increased from 41% in the second quarter of 2023 to 51% in the fourth quarter of 2023, the report indicated.

55% of the families who were excluded from the cash assistance for basic needs provided by UNHCR were unable to pay the rent, and 44% of them received a threat of eviction in the last quarter of 2023, the assessment revealed.

48% of assessment participants receiving cash assistance reported that they were unable to pay rent in the third quarter of 2023, while 40% received an eviction threat during the reporting period.

The average spending of refugee families was JD26 on electricity bills and JD11 on water bills per month.
