Ammon News - Jordan is urging its Western allies to lobby Israel to increase aid coming from the kingdom via Karem Abu Salem crossing – called Kerem Shalom in Israel – on the border of Egypt, Israel and Gaza, beyond the existing Rafah crossing, officials say, according to Reuters.
Minister of Government Communications, Muhannad Mubaidin, had previously stated that Jordan is leading an international effort to continue sending humanitarian and relief aid to he people in the Gaza Strip, and that Jordan had succeeded in finding a new path to bring humanitarian aid into Gaza directly via the King Hussein Bridge and reaching Al-Auja crossing, then to Gaza via Karem Abu Salem crossing.
This step is a victory for Jordanian diplomacy in continuing to send aid to Gaza. In order to alleviate the burden on the people in the Gaza Strip, according to Mubaidin, he also pointed out that this new route for delivering aid through the Karem Abu Salem crossing is the shortest distance and ensures its fastest arrival. Due to the pressure on the amount of aid that the Rafah crossing is facing.
Acting Deputy Secretary of State and Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, said earlier that the leadership demonstrated by His Majesty King Abdullah and Jordan on the humanitarian front in Gaza was critical to the progress made this week and the opening of the Karem Abu Salem border crossing.
