Ukrainian embassy in Jordan responds to Ambassador of Russia: Distorted reality

Ammon News - The Ukrainian embassy in Jordan responded to the article by the Russian ambassador to the Kingdom, Gleb Desyatnikov, published by Ammon News Agency entitled Justice Games.

In the recent publication the Russian Ambassador to Jordan expressed concerns about the International Criminal Court's (ICC) effectiveness and political biases. However, these concerns pale in comparison to the harsh reality of Russia's actions in Ukraine, which demand global attention and accountability.

The Ambassador conveniently sidesteps the undeniable truth – Russia's egregious actions in Ukraine since brutal and unprovoked full-scale invasion that is ongoing for almost two years since february 2022. From forced deportations of children to heinous acts like rape, torture, and targeted attacks on civilians, the Ambassador's narrative appears to be an elaborate distraction from Russia's own crimes.

Over 19,000 Ukrainian children have been illegally deported to Russia, robbed of their homes and identities. The Ambassador neglects to address this heartbreaking reality, where Russian kidnappers indoctrinate these stolen children with propaganda, leaving them stranded in a foreign land.

The ambassador's attempt to divert attention from Russia's reprehensible acts by critiquing the ICC's effectiveness is a glaring misdirection. The world must not be swayed by such rhetoric and should focus on holding Russia accountable for the atrocities it has committed in Ukraine. Following classic Russian propaganda toolkit – diverting attention and playing with your feelings - , Ambassador wants you to believe that the war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength, lies is truth.

Ukraine, with the support of its partners, has exhausted all diplomatic avenues to curb Russia's aggression. From UN General Assembly resolutions to legally binding ICJ orders, the world has witnessed a relentless pursuit of justice. Unfortunately, Russia remains adamant in its misconduct, which demands stronger countermeasures to force Moscow to cease its aggression. The ICJ and ICC latest decisions provide us with a direction where things will head in the near future. Accountability is inevitable, Your Excellency.

The International Court of Justice's ruling on January 31st that Russia violated terrorism and anti-discrimination treaties is just the beginning. The court is set to issue another ruling on Ukraine's accusations of Russia wrongly using the Genocide Convention to justify its invasion. These condemnations speak volumes about Russia's blatant disregard for international law.

The criticism of ICC from the Russian Ambassador is not surprising. Earlier in March 2023 the ICC has issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova in connection to the forced deportation of children from Ukraine. Russia's leaders are now subjects of international criminal investigations, highlighting the severe consequences of their actions. The ICC is holding Vladimir Putin for what he is – a thug and criminal.

A good example of what is coming for Russian leadership in the future is the case of Slobodan Milošević, the former president of Yugoslavia, who was indicted on a series of war crimes charges by the international criminal tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the midst of the war in Kosovo in 1999. In 2001, amid a struggle between key opposing figures in Serbia after Milošević’s fall from power, the prime minister, Zoran Djindjić, ordered the transfer of Milošević to The Hague, saying: “Any other solution except cooperation with The Hague would lead the country to disaster.”

What is there left to say?! Clock is ticking for Russia, Your Excellency. Time of reckoning is near.
