Jordan welcomes 1.4mln tourists in Q1 of 2023

Ammon News - Jordan recorded an unparalleled surge in tourist arrivals during the opening quarter of 2023, with 1.476 million sightseers flocking to the Kingdom, marking a major 90.7 percent upswing from the prior year's 774,111 vacationers.

The monthly bulletin issued Wednesday by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities showed an 80.9-percent rise in overnight tourists during quarter one of 2023, reaching 1.204 million visitors compared to 665,779 in quarter one of 2022.

In quarter one of 2019, tourism's "golden year," Jordan welcomed 1.146 million visitors and 966,483 overnight tourists.

The bulletin showed a 163.9-percent jump in the number of visitors from European countries, hitting 198,766 tourists during the same period. Similarly, visitors from Asia and the Pacific hiked by 286.4 percent to 79,232 tourists as well as American (North, Central and South Americas) countries by 159.9 percent to 58,880 tourists.

A total of 508,853 tourists from Arab countries (up 61.7 percent) visited the Kingdom during the three-month period, while 8,162 Africans (up 128.4 percent) entered Jordanian lands for tourism purposes.

In March 2023, some 536,642 people visited Jordan, up 43.1 percent from 375,017 tourists recorded in March 2022.
