Ammon News - Romanian ambassador to Jordan George Maior said Sunday his country sees Jordan "a factor of balance and fairness in a complex region", lauding the Kingdom's efforts to promote stability and peace in the Middle East.

He told Petra in remarks marking the 58th anniversary of Jordanian-Romanian diplomatic relations that "during this period, we had great bilateral cooperation, and now we can say that our relationship has never been stronger."

"Today, in the face of multiple global and regional challenges, we stand together as we share similar views and have the same commitments to stability, prosperity, and providing good opportunities to our people," he said.

"All these 58 years have contributed to a solid partnership between our two countries on the political level, in trade and economics, education, culture, food security, civil protection, healthcare, security, military and cyber defense," said the envoy.

As a coincidence, he noted, today marks the 19th anniversary of Romania’s full membership in NATO, the world's strongest political-military alliance.

As a NATO Contact Point Embassy in Amman, for the next two years, the Romanian Embassy will help the North Atlantic Alliance and Jordan to work closely and to strengthen their strategic ties, he pledged, adding that Romania will continue to support Jordan’s aspirations for closer relations and cooperation with the EU and NATO.

He also expressed support for the vision and determination of His Majesty King Abdullah to implement reforms and develop the Kingdom in political, economic, and administrative domains, which are indispensable for long-term stability and sustainability growth.

Jordan and Romania established diplomatic relations on April 2, 1965, and diplomatic missions at the embassy level have been functioning in Bucharest and Amman since 1974.
