The Tadamon (Sisterhood is Global Institute Jordan - SIGI) said in its report that the rate of family murders in 2022 increased from previous years in an unprecedented increase, according to Tadamon, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) statements and media communications as the rate of murders within the family increased in 2022 compared to 2021, at a rate of 94%, as it increased from 18 victims to 35 in 2022.
"Tadamon" revealed the harvest of unfortunate family murders that occurred from the beginning of 2022 to its end, which was the highest ever in several years, as the number of crimes committed within the family in 2022 reached 25 crimes, claiming 35 victims, and the following are the details of the crimes and victims.
6 family crimes during the first half of 2022
On January 31, 2022, brother in his twenties killed his sister in Al-Karak within a sharp tool, he was arrested and investigations was launched with him.
On March 11, brother in his twenties also killed his sister in Madaba, by suffocation as a result of disputes between them, and he was arrested.
In addition to another crime of a woman in her seventies was killed by her relative, which occurred in the same month on March 13, and was reveled on March 19.
Tadamon also said that another crime occurred on May 2, when a 70-year-old man killed his granddaughter and injured his son with a “Pump-action” firearm in Balqa, the child died immediately, and her father was transferred to the hospital to take the necessary treatment, an investigation was opened into the incident.
In June, a person was arrested who killed his wife in Irbid after he confessed to beating her due to a dispute that occurred between them!
The second half of 2022 is the most violent in terms of the occurrence of crimes within the family
Tadamon deeply regrets the murders that took place in July, which amounted to 4 family crimes.
The first crime took place on July 5, in Ramtha- Irbid, when two girls were violated by the father, which led to their death, and they were buried in the vicinity of the house.
Another crime occurred on the same day of the previous crime in Ajloun, when a man in his seventies shot his two sons due to financial disputes, while the third crime in July occurred on July 23, in Balqa Governorate, where a brother in his twenties killed his sister with a gunshot.
The fourth crime claimed the lives of a boy and a girl in Amman, on July 29-30, when a report was received to the East Amman Police Directorate from a person that his wife had strangled her two children (6-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl.)
On August 8, a husband killed his 40-year-old wife in Rusaifa by stabbing her with a sharp tool, as he fled from the scene of the crime before bring arrested, while the body of the wife was transferred to the hospital and an investigation was opened into the incident.
On August 21, a husband also killed his 40-year-old wife in Zarqa by stabbing her and he was arrested, while on August 23, a husband killed his wife in Al-Bashir hospital and he was arrested.
On September 9, a mother-in-law killed her daughter’s husband and burned his body due to family disputes between them in Ma’an Governorate.
On September 23, a person killed his wife and son in Jerash by a gunshot, he turned himself in to the police and the investigations took place with him.
While on September, 28, a father set fire to his house in Wadi al-Rimam- Amman, which led to his death and 3 of his children, and the mother was transferred to the hospital to take the necessary treatment, in addition to the death of a child on the same day, due to shooting himself with his father’s gunwhile the security authorities opened the necessary investigations to uncover the circumstances of the case.
On September 30, a woman in Mafraq stabbed her husband and poured hot water on him.
On October 24, a sister was stabbed with a sharp object by her brother in Amman.
One day later, on October 25, a man stabbed his 80-year-old mother in Amman in AL Jizah region, and according to statements, he suffers from mental illness.
On November 18, a house maid stabbed a woman and her daughter in Amman, which led to the death of the daughter, and in the same month on November 23, a husband killed his wife in Amman, due to family disputes that occurred between them.
In December, the last month of 2022, specifically on December 22, a young woman opened fire with a "bump-action" weapon at her family members, which resulted in 3 deaths and 2 injuries.
In addition to a husband beating his wife in Amman which led to her death, and he was arrested.
On the same date, a father abused his 3-year-old daughter in Amman, which led to her death because she was carried up with both hands and her body hit the ground.
25 victims of crimes committed within the family targeted women and children... 60% are women... and 40% are children
Tadamon notes that the number of women and children who were victims of family murders has reached 25 victims within the family, and the majority of those who committed the killings, according to what was announced, are first-degree relatives such as "a husband kills his wife" and "a brother kills his sister."
6 crimes outside the family committed against women and girls
Tadamon confirms that women and girls do not only suffer from domestic violence that leads to murders, but that women are subjected to various types of violence outside the family as well, as Tadamon indicates that there are 6 females who were killed in Jordan in 2022.
In the details, a 17-year-old girl was killed in Amman, on March 13, in addition to the killing of a university girl in Amman by a person who had previously threatened her with death, such as the killing of a university student at Mansoura University in Egypt on June 23, in addition to a person killing a girl in Zarqa Governorate following a dispute between them on July 19.
On August 25, a woman was killed in a quarrel that took place between two families in Amman, specifically in Al Bayader area, after she was hit in the head with a stone.
On September 6, a woman was killed by a person who killed her and burned her to hide her body, according to what was announced by the media spokesperson in the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
On September 11, a woman in her fifties was killed by a person who was stabbed her several times, and the killing was with intent to steal, according to what was announced.
