Conference to enhance protection against anti-women digital violence kicks off

Ammon News - Activities of the conference on promoting prevention and protection from cyber violence against women kicked off in Aqaba on Wednesday, organized by the Karak Castle Center for Consultation and Training, in cooperation with Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

This event is part of the digital safety project for elected women in Jordan's municipal and governorate councils in the southern governorates.

Addressing participants on behalf of Chairman of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Entrepreneurship and Youth commissioner , Ramzi Kabariti, stressed the importance of strengthening prevention of anti-women online violence, by holding awareness-raising meetings aimed at informing women of measures necessary to address such situations and refer cases to the concerned authorities to seek assistance.

For her part, official in charge of the political department at the Canadian Embassy in Jordan, Manu Bouclere, pointed to the conference's importance in promoting local women's awareness in this regard.

Stressing the need to introduce women to the cyberviolence dangers, Bouclere called on concerted efforts, whether local or international, to reach "effective" solutions to eliminate this phenomenon, which is ravaging civil societies now.

The conference discussed multiple axes, most notably role of family protection in addressing this phenomenon, its psychological effects, legal aspects, training on initiatives and future plan to achieve the project's sustainability.
