Ammon News - The Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor "Akeed" recorded 24 rumors that circulated through local media and social media platforms during November.

The observatory's monthly report, which came out on Wednesday, said this month witnessed a decrease in rumors from the 36 rumors it recorded in October.

Security rumors topped the list of the types of rumors with 8 (or 33 percent) of the total number during the same month, followed by economic rumors with 6 (or 25 percent), health and public affairs rumors with 4 respectively (or 17 percent), and social and political rumors with 1 respectively (or 4 percent), the figures showed.

All of the 24 rumors recorded in November originated from local sources, such as social media platforms or news websites, according to the report.

Eighteen rumors, or 75 percent of the total rumors recorded, originated from local social media, while six, or 25 percent, originated from traditional media.

The report urged users of social networking sites to refrain from sharing or re-posting any content without a credible source, noting that relying on the users of these sites as a source of news without considering the content's veracity leads to the publication of a great deal of incorrect and inaccurate news, as well as the propagation of rumors and false information.
