Ammon News - The Jordan Seismological Observatory has installed a new earthquake monitoring station near the Wadi Arab Dam in the north of the Kingdom.

Head of the observatory, Ghassan Sweidan, said the new station houses two types of seismometers and a strong motion seismograph for measuring earthquake displacement and acceleration.

The new station is the 23rd of the total seismic monitoring stations operating in Jordan and distributed to strategic facilities such as dams, power plants, major city centers, and locations of seismic activity in the Kingdom.

The observatory is the only official body in Jordan authorized to monitor seismic activity, analyze local and regional earthquakes and archive seismic data to build a data base as a reference for official bodies.
