FM, Qatari counterpart talk cooperation

Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on Sunday held talks on ways to enhance "historic brotherly" relations and reviewed a number of Arab and regional issues.

Speaking at the meeting, the two ministers affirmed the continued work to increase joint cooperation and coordination in various fields, in implementation of the two countries' leaderships, in a manner that would reflect positively on serving common interests.

The duo also discussed steps aimed to deepen investment, economic and commercial cooperation, and agreed to increase contacts among the two countries' competent authorities and stakeholders to identify future cooperation opportunities and work to benefit from them.

The Palestinian issue topped the regional aspect of their talks, as the two ministers said there is no alternative to the two-state solution, as a way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region.

In this regard, the duo stressed the need to stop all illegal Israeli measures that undermine peacemaking efforts and push towards more aggravation, tension and conflict.

Sheikh Mohammed affirmed Qatar's support for the historic Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites and its role in protecting sanctities and its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.

The two ministers also discussed efforts related to resolving the crises in Syria, Libya and Yemen, and a number of issues.

Safadi congratulated Sheikh Mohammed on the "great" success and excellence achieved by Qatar in organizing the FIFA World Cup 2022, as a "remarkable, historic" achievement for all Arabs.

The two ministers agreed to maintain joint communication and coordination.
