Ammon News - HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS), on Monday opened the 37th annual International Conference on Human Dignity Studies, which is organized in cooperation with the World Dignity University Initiative.

Taking part in the virtual and in-person conference, titled "Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies: From United Nations to United People: From the Brink of Disaster to a Future of Dignity", are local and international intellectuals, academics, Islamic scholars and Christian clergy.

In opening remarks, Prince El Hassan said that human dignity can be an instrument for joint action to raise awareness and promote the basic values that form the core of our humanity, such as compassion, empathy, respect and partnership, in a world of rising challenges and turmoil.

His Highness said that dignity is the search for human solidarity that respects pluralism and diversity, instead of polarization and hatred, calling for human empowerment and approaching the concept of development through the activation and empowerment of societies.

It is high time to talk about the stability of the peoples of the region, and the need to adopt a new vision based on integration and achieving harmony between the human and natural environment, including the water, energy and food sectors, he said.

For her part, RIIFS director Renee Hattar said that the institute focuses on promoting common human values and ethics, which contribute to strengthening cooperation and relations between followers of religions, eliminating misconceptions about the "others" and expanding common denominators in the hope of promoting peaceful coexistence.

Evelen Lindner, co-founder of the World Dignity University Initiative, said that the idea of the initiative began in 2001, as it is concerned with people who want to bring more dignity to the world and was a direct invitation to educators around the world.

The three-day Amman conference will tackle the prevention of all forms of violence and efforts to create the conditions to promote human dignity, as no crises are isolated in today's interconnected world.
