Ammon News - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has called for rationalizing energy consumption after the electric load reached 3,580 megawatts on Saturday evening, up from 3,020 megawatts in the morning.
The current summer season's highest electricity load was 3,400 megawatts, while the highest load ever recorded in the Kingdom was 4,010 megawatts last January, according to the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).
According to the company's data, the amount of energy generated from traditional sources edged down by 0.6 percent from 4,000 megawatts in 2020 to 3,977 megawatts in 2021. In contrast, the share of renewables increased from 1,424 megawatts in 2020 to 1,579 megawatts in 2021, an increase of 10.9 percent.
The ministry issued an energy conservation and rationalization guide, recommending that windows and curtains be closed to keep out hot air and sunlight, and that air conditioner filters be cleaned, especially during the summer, when the electric load is at its peak.
