HRH Prince Hassan, founder and chairman of the Royal Scientific Society, on Thursday attended the launch event of the Arab Physical Society (APS).

According to an APS statement on Sunday, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the virtual launch event witnessed the participation of a number of the world’s leading physicists, notably Nobel Prize laureates and Wolf Prize winners.

Prince Hassan, during the ceremony, emphasised the importance of promoting a science and innovation culture to enhance development, highlighting the role of scientists in optimising technology and innovation to enhance “wisdom” in scientific efforts and achievements.

The prince also drew attention to the need to build networks between scientists around the world to draw up policies at regional and international levels, noting that the APS could help in this arena.

Building intellectual knowledge bases to achieve development must be realised through regional integration and networking and relying on a multidisciplinary approach, the prince noted.

He also lauded the role of Jordan’s scientific centres and universities, notably in physics research, highlighting their achievements at the local and international levels.

The APS is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation that aims to spread and promote physics knowledge and its advancement, improve scientific education, research and human capacity building in the Arab world. The Arab world includes all countries having Arabic as an official language. The ASP fosters diversity to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion and culture, according to its website.
