Man handed to 1-year-prison sentence for customs fraud

Ammon News - The Amman Magistrates Court on Wednesday handed an investor one year in prison in connection with customs fraud.

The court also ruled that he shall pay JD397,0163, in addition to a fine of JD500, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

It was proven to the court after 46 sessions, which included hearings from 15 witnesses, that the individual had brought to the country some 42 tonnes of hookah (water pipe) tobacco using forged and expired documents, under which he received a customs exemption, as well as an exemption from the Jordan Investment Commission worth JD397,000.
