Magistrates court delivers 1-year prison term to investor over fraud charges

Amman Magistrates Court handed down a one-year prison sentence to an investor on charges related to duping Jordan Customs Department (JCD) and the Jordan Investment Commission (JIC).

During a public session on Wednesday, the court also ruled that the defendant should pay an amount of JD397, 163 , in addition to a JD500 fine.

The trial, which took 46 sessions to conclude, heard 15 witnesses presented by the Public Prosecution, alongside a technical expert.

According to the court's sheets, the suspect had entered 42 tonnes hookah tobacco, using forged and expired authorizations, which enabled him to obtain exemptions from the JCD and the JIC at a value of JD397,000.
