Ammon News - The Lower House of Parliament's Palestine Committee has welcomed a report by Amnesty International describing Israel as an apartheid state.
In a press statement on Thursday, the committee underlined the importance of the "evidence-based" report issued by a recognized and credible international human rights institution.
Head of the Committee Mohammad Dhahrawi pointed out that the committee is planning to hold a pro-Palestine solidarity conference, stressing the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Amnesty's report is the fruit of years of labor that set the record straight and proved incidents using numbers and dates with full professionalism and credibility, Dhahrawi indicated, noting that it tackled the three components of the Palestinian people; those living in areas occupied in 1948 and 1967 as well as refugees living in camps.
He said the report serves as an additional evidence to expose the Israeli occupation and hold Israel accountable as an apartheid state against the Palestinian people, and discloses Israel's seizure of Palestinian land and property, killings, forced displacement, severe restrictions on freedom of movement, and denial of citizenship and rights for Palestinians, all of which fall under the system of an apartheid state under international law.
The committee called on Arab, Islamic and international parliaments to take appropriate measures in the face of colonialist and racist policies against the Palestinian people.
