Najjar partakes in Arab Ministers of Culture conference in Dubai

Ammon News - Minister of Culture, Haifa Najjar, participated in the 22nd session of Arab Ministers of Culture conference, which kicked off Sunday, at Expo 2020 Dubai.

This session of the two-day conference, organized by the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth, in cooperation with the Arab UNESCO and attended by 21 Arab culture ministers, heads of international organizations and key figures, holds special importance due to current circumstances, the world is going through in light of the Covid pandemic and its impacts, and coincides with the World Arabic Language Day.

In her speech at the conference opening ceremony, Najjar said devising a comprehensive plan for Arab culture emphasizes the importance of the role of cultural players in establishing the cultural scene, bypassing the concept of cultural elites, and realizing the role of cultural departments, which should remain committed to facilitating the role of players, and providing the necessary support to them.

"We need to build an Arab strategy to stimulate reading," Najjar added, pointing out that studies indicate that the Arab individual's share of reading is very low compared to the Western individual.

The culture minister highlighted key proposals and recommendations on the comprehensive plan for Arab culture, which would include preparing the intellectual and material conditions for Arab culture, to be aligned with the era of knowledge as possible by facilitating access to knowledge.

She called for shifting from adopting the idea of supporting individual digital creativity to structural digital creativity and creating the appropriate environment, financially and politically, for the success of these transformations, and adopting a project that addresses the universally called Internet poverty.

Najjar briefed the gathering on key projects and future plans that the Ministry of Culture is working on.
