Ammon News - A former assistant secretary-general of a government-affiliated independent agency was sentenced Sunday to two years in prison after an Amman court found him guilty of forging an official document, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

According to court documents, the man fabricated his temporary employment contract from one year to six. The convict prepared a new (false) six-year contract, and a formal one-year contract and managed to mislead his direct superior, the Secretary-General, who, unknowingly, signed the informal six-year contract.

Consequently, the convict had two work contracts, one for a period of six years and kept in his office, and the other official for a period of one year, which went through all the legal stages, according to Petra.

But when the agency decided to terminate the man's services, he said the contract was for six years and could not be terminated. Later, an investigation committee was formed and the matter was transferred to the court, which convicted the man after examining the evidence in the case file.

Today's ruling by an Amman Magistrate's Court judge wraps up a six-month trial. The verdict remains open to appeal before a higher court.
