Cabinet approves MoU, committee recommendations

Ammon News - The Cabinet, in a session Wednesday chaired by Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh, approved a memorandum of understanding and other recommendations made by government committees, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

The Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority to delegate the latter to license and control tourist camps located outside the Wadi Rum Protected Area. The approval, a ministry statement said, aims at coordinating efforts, simplifying procedures, supporting investment, raising the level of tourist services provided inside the area, and creating a uniform reference for the management of the area outside Wadi Rum Protected Area.

During the session, the Cabinet also approved the recommendations of the Settlement and Reconciliation Committee, formed according to the basis for settling outstanding issues between taxpayers and the Income and Sales Tax Department, to settle the tax conditions of 1,017 companies and taxpayers, who had obligations in accordance with the provisions of the Income Tax Law and the General Sales Tax Law.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Committee to Consider Outstanding Claims between taxpayers and/or violators and the Jordan Customs Department, to settle 14 cases of taxpayers and violators, provided that they commit to paying the due amounts in full along with any fees, taxes or expenses within two months of this decision.
