Ammon News -

The National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) and the Shayyar For Construction and Contracting Co Tuesday inked an agreement to establish two sustainable farms in the Jordan Valley.

NARC Director-General Nizar Haddad said the agreement paves the way to establish the first sustainable farm in the Middle East.

The two farms would be training and rehabilitation hubs for farmers and agriculture engineers on animal and plant agriculture.

The project also seeks the development of water harvesting systems and the establishment of a unit to manufacture organic fertilisers, he added.

Haddad emphasised the role of the NARC as the "scientific arm" of the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighting it seeks to put Jordan's natural resources to optimal use. The agreement, he said, stipulates that a photovoltaic system would be installed at the two farms that would be built at the Jordan Valley as per the agreement.

Shayyar Director Khalid Maaitah said the company had implemented some 60 projects, voicing his pride the company is part of a national project that advances private-public sectors cooperation.

The agreement, aimed at enhancing the resilience of poor and vulnerable groups to cope with climate change through creative projects, is part of the "Adapting to Climate Change and Building Food Security Systems".
