Ammon News - Prime Minister, Bishr Khasawneh, on Wednesday, chaired the first meeting of the Council of the National Center for the Control of Epidemics and Communicable Diseases.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the center's role to promote public health practices in the field of prevention of epidemics and communicable diseases and taking the necessary measures to prevent their spread and mitigate their effects.

The government, he pointed out, established the center in implementation of the royal directives in the Letter of Designation, which contained instructions for the center to enter into force within an institutional and legislative framework. He underlined the importance of moving at a fast and steady pace so that the center effectively performs its role, in accordance with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, much like centers in developed countries.

Khasawneh also highlighted the need to empower the center to start its work, "not only because we are in the midst of a pandemic, but because it is a necessity within the framework of countries' policies to deal with the challenges of epidemics and communicable diseases in a proactive, researchable or even organizational manner."

Head of the center, Firas Hawari, gave a briefing on the procedures for establishing the center, which will provide diagnostic, research and academic training services. He underscored that the establishment of the center is an important step and one of the achievements made in the second centenary of the establishment of the Jordanian state, and it is one of the basic building blocks of the Jordanian healthcare structure.

During the meeting, the Council elected the Minister of Health as Deputy Chairman, and approved a proposed organizational structure for the center, having taken into account the observations and technical opinion of the Legislation and Opinion Bureau and the Institutional Performance Development Unit at the Cabinet.
