Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the continued violations in Al-Aqsa Mosque, the latest of which was the incursion of hundreds of extremists into the mosque's yards on Sunday.
In a press statement, the ministry's media spokesperson, Dhaifallah Fayez, said the extremists' raids under the protection of the Israeli police are a "flagrant" violation of the existing legal and historic status, international law and the Israel's obligations, the occupying power in occupied East Jerusalem, in accordance with international law.
Stressing that the Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims, he said the Jordan-run Department of the Jerusalem Waqf (endowments) and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs are the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage all Al-Haram's affairs and regulate entry to it.
Fayez called on the Israeli authorities to stop the violations, respect the legal and historic status quo, and respect authority of the competent Jerusalem endowments administration.
The diplomat also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to pressure Israel to stop the ongoing violations and provocations in Al-Haram site.
