Ammon News - The Supreme Judge Department on Tuesday launched a number of online services and procedures to curb the spread of the coronavirus and prevent crowding at Sharia courts, the Jordan news Agency, Petra, reported.

Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Hafez Rabtah said that online services, which will be provided next month, include scheduling the signing of marriage contracts.

Marriage officiants will partake in marriage ceremonies held at houses instead of Sharia courts. He indicated that other services such as divorce and inheritance would be activated later on through an appointment reservation system in Sharia courts, according to Petra.

Other procedures include limiting cases pertaining to single families, regardless of their type, date of registration, and number to one judicial body.

Heads of courts have been authorised to allow the operation of courts with a minimum number of employees, Rabtah noted.

He stressed that the department is partnering with the Civil Status and Passports Department to obtain a database of authorised addresses to deliver judicial notifications.
