FM, Norwegian counterpart discuss ties, Mideast issues

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and his Norwegian counterpart Ine Eriksen Soreide discussed ways to boost cooperation and solidarity to address the COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications, in addition to a number of Middle East developments.
In a phone call Wednesday, the two ministers underlined the 'strength' of bilateral relations and the deep-rooted partnership, and tackled regional and international developments, especially those related to the Palestinian cause, and the efforts made to ensure the provision of the necessary financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
Safadi commended Norway's clear support of efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict and achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with international law, in addition to Norway's active role in this regard.
He also paid tribute to the Scandinavian nation's efforts as the Chair of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) to coordinate international aid provided to the Palestinian people, and in support of UNRWA.
The two ministers also reviewed prospects for joint action to find a 'real horizon' for resolving the conflict and achieving peace through serious, effective and direct negotiations on the basis of international law.
Safadi underscored that Jordan, which has endured the consequences of regional crises, will continue to work in cooperation with Norway, friendly countries and partners to resolve the crises and address their consequences.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian Foreign Minister highlighted the distinguished bilateral cooperation and the strong partnership and friendship, underling that the coordination on all regional issues, including the peace process, will continue.
The two ministers agreed to continue consultations, coordination and meeting at the earliest opportunity to follow up on efforts to enhance cooperation and develop bilateral relations in addition to regional developments.
