FM, Russian counterpart discus cooperation, region

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, held talks on Monday, which confirmed the continued action to develop cooperation and strengthen relations between the Kingdom and Russia.

Talks also reviewed regional developments and the efforts made to solve the region's crises.
Speaking over the phone, Safadi and Lavrov discussed ways to increase cooperation in various fields, and lauded the continuous progress in the bilateral relations, which coincided with the 57th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties marked on Saturday.

Bilateral relations are steadily moving towards broader horizons of cooperation under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Vladimir Putin, the two ministers affirmed.

Safadi described the Palestinian cause as "the top central issue," adding the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 lines is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, which is a regional and international strategic necessity.

In this context, Safadi and Lavrov stressed the need to find a political horizon for resolving the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, and international legitimacy resolutions through "serious and effective" negotiations.

The two top diplomats also stressed support for efforts aimed to hold a meeting of the International Quartet, or Quartet extended talks, to resume peace efforts on the basis of international law.

Safadi and Lavrov also stressed the importance of achieving the Palestinian national reconciliation, as Safadi appreciated Russia's efforts in this context and its firm stance in support of the two-state solution and adherence to international legitimacy resolutions.

In this regard, Safdai stressed the importance of the Russian role in the Middle East peace process.
On Syrai, Safadi and Lavrov discussed developments in efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis in a way that preserves Syria's unity and cohesion and restores its security and stability.

Moreover, they stressed the importance of holding meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva under the supervision of the United Nations as a step on the road to reaching the desired solution.
Reviewing developments in the Libyan crisis, the two ministers said:"There is no military solution to the crisis," and stressed the importance of concerted efforts to ensure a ceasefire and launch political negotiations to solve the crisis in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and in a manner that guarantees the Libya's unity.

Safadi and Lavrov discussed developments in the Arab Gulf region, and stressed the importance of consolidating stability and security in the Arab Gulf region and resolving disputes politically in a manner that guarantees respect for international law and the principle of good neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs.

Safadi and Lavrov stressed solidarity in facing the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences, and agreed to maintain consultations and coordination on ways to develop bilateral cooperation on regional issues.
