Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh, said the government deals with every issue that raises public opinion with absolute transparency, and has the courage to uncover deficiencies and shortcomings - if any - without concealing , "and hold the negligent accountable, whoever they are; this is what His Majesty King Abdullah always directs us to."

"The work of the fact-finding committee in charge of investigating the food poisoning incident in the Ein Al-Basha district doesn't in any way intersect with the work of the judicial authority or the work of the Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC); as both sides are investigating some aspects of the accident," Adaileh said in a joint press conference with ministers of higher education and health, held at the prime ministry on Wednesday.

On the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom, Adaileh indicated that the Kingdom is witnessing a remarkable and alarming increase in the number of local infections. This requires tightening procedures, enhancing measures of caution, and adhering to the utmost precaution, to prevent further infections, and preserve the health and safety of citizens, especially in light of the difficulty of re-imposing total lockdowns or full curfew due to their significant economic, social and psychological impacts.

"The responsibility is getting bigger on all of us as we are closing on modifying the matrix and the plan to open sectors to enable some closed sectors to operate; such as schools and universities, which are not allowed to operate under the current stage (moderate risk - blue)," the minister noted.

He added that the matrix is to be modified to enable these sectors to work on their scheduled dates (on September 1 for schools and early October for universities), with an emphasis on adherence to prevention and precaution measures, and following appropriate health protocols.

"Everyone is a partner in responsibility, and commitment is a must by everyone, and cooperation, solidarity and adherence must be made in light of this critical stage that we are going through, in order to preserve the successful Jordanian model in dealing with this global pandemic," Adaileh underlined.

Regarding rumors related to lock Amman down, Adaileh said: "The government and security bodies are dealing, up to this moment, with locking down a city, neighborhood or building, and we will not resort to imposing full curfew or any lockdown at the level of the capital."

In response to a question about the possibility of closing the Al-Omari border crossing in the event of an increase in the number of infections, Adaileh indicated that "the government had previously announced that it will conduct a study on the status of border crossings and develop them in line with the government's plans to protect drivers, workers and their visitors, and maintain the health and safety of citizens, and it will be announced soon."

The minister also confirmed that the government's plan to open schools and universities includes closing any school in which a case of coronavirus infection appears, in addition to closing schools in neighborhoods where infections are recorded, upon the recommendation of the health ministry and the Epidemics National Committee.
