Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Clear implementation problems and a severe lack of inspectors for food establishments compared to the number in the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), have contributed to the food poisoning incident in the Ein Al-Basha district, three weeks ago.
The JFDA does only exist in four governorates, namely Zarqa, Karak, Irbid, and Amman, and the number of inspectors in the administration amounts to 82 inspectors who inspect on 64,000 food establishments, and for this reason the JFDA signs agreements with health directorates in the rest of the governorates to mandate them to monitor food establishments, including the agreement signed with the Balqa' Health Directorate, Higher Education Minister , head of the fact-finding committee in charge of investigating the incident, Mohieldin Touq, said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Touq said that the work of the JFDA and the Balqa' Health Directorate faced shortcomings, a clear and unjustified deficiency, and poor coordination and integration between them. Therefore, the committee believes that they both bear administrative responsibility for the incident.
"In order to preserve the health of citizens and not to repeat incidents of this kind in the future, the committee has made ten recommendations related to the provisions of legal texts and the procedures stipulated in any agreements related to food control," Touq added.
