Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Health Minister Saad Jaber said Saturday that nine new local infections with the coronavirus and one case from abroad were recorded in the Kingdom, raising the caseload since the outbreak of the pandemic to 1,339.

He told the daily brief at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management that four of the local cases were contacts with infected people in Ramtha, 4 in Amman and 1, a woman who was in contact with her infected husband at a quarantine site.

He said a total of 75 local cases have been recorded in nine days.

The minister also said that epidemiological investigation teams today took 6,600 COVID-19 swabs, bringing to 686,351 the number of tests since the pandemic began.

He urged the public to avoid gatherings and ceremonies that violate instructions and observe physical distancing, wear face masks and use sanitizers when exchanging congratulations during social occasions.

He pointed out that the infections figures are of concern, especially that the countries of the world and the region are experiencing a critical stage to the extent that one can't find a bed in a hospital, and that a return to epidemiological stability requires concerted efforts since it is a common responsibility to combat the epidemic.

The minister stressed that the numbers are accurate and are monitored by the media and international organisations, adding that the procedures being followed meet the standards in cooperation with all concerned authorities.
