Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani Mulki received in his office on Monday Chairman of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Sir Suma Chakrabarti and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhouri, Mulki expressed appreciation to the bank for holding the bank's annual meeting in the Kingdom this weekend for the first time in the Middle East region, and said Jordan looks forward to this event to look into mechanisms to further extend financial aid to the country to overcome challenges and repercussions of hosting Syrian refugees.

Mulki valued the bank's activities and investments in Jordan, and said promising opportunities and prospects for future cooperation exist between the two sides.

The Prime Minister also said Jordan is looking forward to benefiting from the bank's longstanding expertise in the areas of vocational and technical training and youth rehabilitation in the refugee-hosting communities as well as the training of Syrian refugees in professions that assist in the process of reconstruction and development, once conditions for their return to Syria are prevalent.

On a related context, Mulki pointed to the possibility of establishing a logistics center in Jordan that will contribute to the reconstruction of Iraq and Syria, and noted the bank's participation in this future facility is welcome in view of its expertise and potentials.

Chakrabarti, for his part, expressed his pride in holding the bank's annual meeting in the Kingdom and its interest in enhancing its Jordan-based activities.

He praised Jordan's efforts to facilitate and ensure success of the bank's business.

He pointed out the bank's activities and investments in Jordan cover renewable energy projects, water, sanitation, infrastructure and urban transport fields. He said the bank's investment portfolio in Jordan reached one billion euros between 2012 till now.
