Safadi, al-Jaafari affirm concrete steps to boost cooperation

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi and his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari affirmed on Sunday determination of the two countries to take all steps to develop bilateral relations and boost cooperation in all fields.

During their meeting, the two ministers stressed the importance of the progress the two countries have made in creating legislative frameworks and the completion of the agreements necessary to enhance trade, economic and investment exchange and facilitate cross-border movement after the opening of the Trebil crossing.

They said Jordan and Iraq have the firm political will to launch prospects for wider cooperation in all sectors and overcome all obstacles countering the increased cooperation.

On the region, the two ministers also went over the latest developments related to the Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis and the war on terrorism, as well as several regional and international issues of common interest.

Safadi congratulated al-Jaafari on the victory achieved by the Iraqi army against the terrorist Daesh gangs, and described it "a victory for all humanity" as the Iraqi people have offered great sacrifices fighting the terrorists and "their darkness".

Jaafari thanked Jordan for its support for Iraq in its war on terrorism, and praised the Kingdom's firm stances led by His Majesty King Abdullah II in backing Iraq at various levels.

The two ministers said the two countries will maintain defense and security cooperation to confront the Daesh terrorism at the military, security and ideological levels.

They stressed their keenness to cooperate in the reconstruction of Iraq as Jaafari welcomes a key Jordanian role in the process.

On the Iraq reconstruction, Safadi said Jordan will contribute with all its resources to the reconstruction process and recognizes the importance of Iraq restoring its full role as a cornerstone for the stability and security of the region, which will serve common Arab and Islamic issues.

Safadi stressed Jordan's support for the efforts of the Iraqi government in the reconstruction and its endeavors to bolster security, and pointed to the importance of the upcoming elections as a major step in augmenting the democratic process that entrenches the state of citizenship.

Al-Jaafari thanked Jordan for the facilities it provided to ensure the success of the voting process of the Iraqi community here in the Iraqi parliamentary elections scheduled 12, May, 2018.

On the peace process, Safadi and al-Jaafari stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, and said the realization of comprehensive peace and security in the region is a prerequisite for justice to the brotherly Palestinian people on the basis of a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the 4th, June, 1976 lines.

As for Syria, the two ministers also discussed efforts to end the suffering of the Syrian people and reach a political solution to the crisis acceptable to the Syrian people and guarantee Syeia's unity, cohesion and independence.

The two ministers said the difficult circumstances the Arab countries are battling call for maintaining communication and intensifying coordination and consultation on regional issues and developments to protect the Arab interests and overcome those crises.
