Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government has started drawing up a response plan to the Syrian crisis for the years 2017-2019 in all sectors based on the outcome of a donors conference held in London earlier this year, according to Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury.

The minister explained that the new Jordan Response Plan (JRP) to the Syrian crisis 2017-2019 will take into account the major shortfall in the support the Kingdom receives to grapple with the refugee crisis, which places massive pressures on the economy and infrastructure.

The plan, the minister added, is expected to be finalized in the next few weeks in collaboration with public sector entities, civil society institutions and representatives of international organizations and donors nations. The 2016-2018 JRP was devised following a meticulous study of the needs and vulnerabilities of the refugees and host communities, according to a statement issued following a meeting between the minister and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O’Brien.

Fakhoury said the Kingdom needs additional assistance and support to cope with the refugees crisis and to cover the priorities which the Kingdom put forward during the London donors conference in February this year.

The minister also urged the international community to expand a Syrian refugee resettlement program and host refugees in other countries.
