Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, confirmed that no party can replace the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in what it does in the occupied Palestinian territories especially in the Gaza Strip.
During a press conference with the Commissioner-General of UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini, Safadi pointed out that the Israeli attacks on the agency and its employees are continuing, and there are obstacles that Israel places in the way on the agency's work, which prevents its ability to carry out its duty in accordance with its UN mandate, stressing that UNRWA is carrying out its duty in Gaza despite all the difficult circumstances resulting from the ongoing war and the inhumane practices of the occupation.
Safadi stressed the need to increase the support UNRWA deserves, as the situation in Gaza is still catastrophic at all levels, and even if the quantities of food that the population needs are brought there, it will remain at a minimum in light of the imposition of the siege and exposure to aid convoys, in addition to the overcrowding of shelters and the agency’s schools, and the demolition of hospitals and vital facilities as a result of the continuous occupation bombing.
The Minister also called on all countries of the world to provide the necessary support to the agency, as it is a priority and a firm Jordanian position led by His Majesty King Abdullah II in all forums and occasions, noting that supporting UNRWA is the responsibility of all the countries.
