PM: Citizens' health is top priority

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani Mulki said that the health of Jordanian citizens and the safety of their food and drugs top the government's priorities.

During visits to the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) and Jordan Institute for Standards and Metrology (JISM), Mulki stressed the government's support to departments concerned with monitoring and inspecting food and medicines due to their important role in protecting citizens.

"Due to their competent work and full independence in declaring results of lab tests they carry out, such agencies gained the confidence of Jordanian citizens as well as many countries that depend on these test when importing Jordanian food and medicine," added Mulki who was accompanied by a number of ministers. During a meeting with the Director General of JFDA Hayel Obeidat, the prime minister highlighted the need for coordination between the JFDA and municipalities when conducting inspection campaigns on food safety in various regions across the Kingdom.

Obeidat presented a briefing about the JFDA's work and duties, mainly monitoring food safety.

Mulki also met with Director General of Jordan Institute for Standards and Metrology (JISM) Hayder Al Zaben during which he voiced the government's support to the institute and its role in protecting the health, safety and rights of the consumer, as well as protecting the environment.

JISM also works on enhancing confidence in the services and products placed in the market, through developing and implementing systems that are compatible with best international practices in the fields of standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, market surveillance and accreditation in cooperation with stakeholders and through providing a supportive environment.
