FM: Jordanian prisoners, detainees abroad a top priority

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, on Wednesday, said Jordanian prisoners and detainees in Israel and in other countries remain a top priority for his ministry.

The minister, who is also deputy prime minister, told a parliamentary committee that the ministry has established a special department to follow up on the affairs and cases of Jordanians detained abroad and help facilitate their families' visits.

He spoke about recent efforts the ministry exerted and culminated with the release of a Jordanian businessman from Israel. He said that Ibrahim Seyyam who was detained in Israel arrived back home today. The meeting also dealt with the current difficult financial conditions of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The minister said Jordan will not accept any deduction of the agency's financial allocations to its operations in Jordan. He said the amounts Jordan spends every year for serving Palestinian refugees are more than the agency's total budget.
