King holds talks with Albanian President

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Majesty King Abdullah II, on Tuesday, held talks with President of Albania, Bujar Nishani, on ways to cement ties between Jordan and Albania in various domains in addition to issues of mutual concern.

King Abdullah and President Nishani tackled means of building partnerships and striking closer cooperation, especially in economic spheres, between Jordan and the Balkan nation.

The talks touched on developments in the Muslim world and efforts to address terrorism and extremism. In this context, His Majesty highlighted the Kingdom's efforts to serve pan-Muslim issues and causes.

King Abdullah also spoke about a number of developments in the Middle East, especially the repercussions of the Syrian crisis, the situation in Iraq and some countries in the region.

The Albanian president hailed His Majesty the King's visit as a fruitful opportunity to advance ties and expand cooperation between the two countries. He added that his country deems Jordan as an oasis of security and stability and a gateway to the region's countries.

President Nishani commended Jordan's efforts, spearheaded by His Majesty the King, to bring about peace and stability in the region and the world and highlight the bright image of Islam against terrorism.

"Our common values and vision and geographical proximity between us are reasons to work together to achieve a prosperous future for our peoples", King Abdullah said in joint remarks to the media following the talks.

He added: "Indeed, our talks today have contributed to cementing bilateral cooperation and Jordan is keen to push this cooperation forward and strengthen it."

King Abdullah said Albania, a Muslim-majority country, plays a key role in countering extremist ideology, stressing that halting the inflow of foreign fighters to the Middle East is a global issue and that Jordan and Albania must work together to resolve.

He noted that Jordan and Albania are countries where Muslims and Christians live side by side, therefore, they are required to continue promoting messages of tolerance, moderation and religious coexistence.

"Jordan actively contributes in interfaith dialogue initiatives, and strives to promote peaceful dialogue, and we are pleased to work with a partner who agrees with us in our thinking," King Abdullah said.

The King said he hopes his visit to Albania - the first for his Majesty to the Balkan Muslim nation - would usher in closer ties between the two countries in various fields.

The Albanian President welcomed His Majesty the King and stressed that the King's visit is an important step towards developing relations between the two countries and serve their common interests.

He underlined Jordan's efforts to achieve regional peace and stability. He thanked the Kingdom for its stances towards Kosovo and its just cause.
