King receives Russian atomic official

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II received, on Wednesday, head of Russia's state-run corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko.
The King stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between Jordan's Atomic Energy Commission and the Russian corporation, which resulted yesterday in the signing the inter-governmental agreement between the two sides to build and operate the first nuclear power plant.
Kiriyenko briefed the King about Russia's support in generating electricity by using nuclear power, noting that the site of Amra which was chosen for building the reactor is in line with highest technical and environmental characteristics.
The nuclear reactor was designed to achieve the higher degree of public safety at the facility, and at the same time pointing out that the nuclear waste from the plant will return to Russia and will not remain in Jordan as one of the options available to the government of Jordan in the future, Kiriyenko added.
Kiriyenko assured his country's desire to increase the number of scholarships for Jordanian students in various fields of science and knowledge in the nuclear energy sector to thirty grants annually.
