Al-Fayez: There is no development in the presence of countries that live on wars

07-11-2024 04:01 PM

Ammon News - Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez stated that sustainable development, fostering cooperation between communities, and attaining a world characterized by security, stability, and peace cannot be realized amidst the chaos, political strife, and wars currently affecting the globe, particularly with the existence of nations that operate outside the law and international legitimacy, thriving on warfare and adhering solely to policies of violence and devastation.

This was part of a speech he made at the 15th Bosphorus Summit, which commenced today, Thursday, in Istanbul under the theme "Building Bridges to the Future - Peace, Innovation and Sustainability," featuring numerous politicians, parliamentarians, intellectuals, as well as many country representatives, experts, and media, research, and international studies delegates.

Al-Fayez emphasized that in discussions regarding the construction of bridges between communities, aiming for sustainable development, resolving conflicts and crises, securing international peace, boosting innovation, and leveraging artificial intelligence for developmental concerns, it is crucial to recognize that attaining sustainable and aspirational development is of significant importance, as it serves as the primary defense against the challenges of hunger, poverty, and unemployment, as well as combating extremism, terrorism, and the drift towards a society characterized by hate and violence.

He emphasized the significance of effectively utilizing technology and contemporary methods to attain sustainable development objectives, using them as a proactive and progressive tool to avert crises, while empowering decision-makers to implement remedial, corrective, and preventive actions to protect vulnerable societies and tackle the obstacles that impede holistic development.

He clarified that reaching the intended development necessitates the adoption of strategies that will improve capacities for sustainable development through economic diversification and reforms across different sectors, investing in human capital, and creating plans centered on sustainability and innovation, which will facilitate the attainment of future development objectives for humanity, all while simultaneously building a robust and sustainable economic foundation.

He emphasized that growth necessitates a secure and stable setting, adherence to international laws and charters, as well as virtuous human values. Building peace, achieving development, fostering innovation, and benefitting from artificial intelligence and modern technology cannot occur amidst ongoing conflicts and hegemonic policies, where people face injustice and oppression.

Al-Fayez urged for the creation of a roadmap featuring explicit and achievable objectives that reestablish collaboration among all, notably between Northern and Southern nations, founded on mutual respect and the enhancement of shared interests. It also aims to bridge the technological, digital, and developmental divide between them and offers actionable solutions and suggestions to resolve the conflicts and crises affecting our world, assisting the United Nations and relevant international institutions in their efforts to achieve global peace, uphold human dignity, and ensure the security and stability of nations, thereby promoting development, fostering innovation, and attaining international peace.

He emphasized that tackling the issues confronting the globe today demands bridging divides, enhancing unity, and focusing on shared cultural and civilizational traits and values that connect diverse communities. Furthermore, it involves reinforcing strategic alliances across multiple sectors and promoting initiatives aimed at addressing challenges linked to global geopolitical shifts recently intensified by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the Israeli aggression towards the Palestinian people.

The Senate Speaker noted, "Today, I must emphasize to the global community that the Israeli attacks on the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank have surpassed two years, resulting in hundreds of thousands of martyrs and injured who have perished due to the extermination war and war crimes perpetrated by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon." He emphasized that numerous nations have intentionally overlooked the truth that asserts that peace and security must exist first, allowing conflicts and challenges to be addressed, the rule of law to be established, and the issues of climate change and sustainable development to be tackled, as well as the reduction of poverty and unemployment, and the bridging of the knowledge and technology divide among countries and peoples; only then can we, through collaboration and unity, create a compassionate society devoid of harm and violence.

He remarked that Jordan, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, aligns its endeavors with those of all peace-loving nations to foster an atmosphere of tolerance, justice, legal respect, and collaboration. He emphasized the necessity for a thorough reassessment of the dire conditions and conflicts existing globally today and urged the recognition that numerous capabilities and resources of countries are currently being squandered, fueling conflicts and wars rather than steering them towards inclusive and sustainable development.

At the outset of his speech, Al-Fayez emphasized the significance of Jordanian-Turkish relations, highlighting that they are robust ties grounded in mutual respect and aimed at fulfilling the interests of both friendly nations and their citizens. There is ongoing communication between the two countries to ensure a secure and stable future for the region and its peoples. The conference is set to conduct several working sessions across two days, focusing on strategies to improve technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence for their effective application in achieving sustainable development objectives. It will also tackle the effects of conflicts and crises on development and cooperation, as well as methods to address the diverse challenges currently facing the world.
