Jordanian Caught Swindling Families Of Deceased

Ammon News - Kuwait News Agency - Police have arrested a Jordanian man for swindling Kuwaiti families, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The daily said the suspect carefully chose his victims and after learning the background of the family and the deceased member in the family, he claimed the dead person had borrowed money from him. Some families obliged and returned the debt on behalf of their dead. However, the cheat was arrested after one of the families discovered the trick and complained to police. During interrogation the suspect said he got the telephone numbers of the dead person’s families from local newspapers condolences column.

370 kilos drugs seized: In one of the largest hauls of its kind, the security authorities have seized 370 kilos of drugs while on its way into Kuwait, reports Al-Qabas daily. The daily added, the contraband was seized at the Abdali border post. The truck carrying the drugs arrived at the Abdali border post from Iraq. According to security sources, police acting on information had put the truck under surveillance for a week — the daily did not say how it was put under surveillance — until it arrived at the Abdali border post. The truck carried a cargo of hashish and opium and the security authorities after getting permission from the Public Prosecution ordered a thorough search of the truck. The drugs were found neatly stacked in the bed of the truck. Police sought the help of firemen to cut through a metal firmament under which the drugs were hidden.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah accompanied by the ministry’s Undersecretary Lt Gen Suleiman Al-Fahd visited the General Department for Drugs Control and were briefed on the latest bust — 360 kilos of hashish and 10 kilos of opium. Following the visit to the department Sheikh Mohammed was quoted as saying he was satisfied at the efforts exerted by the criminal security departments. He added, the ministry will continue to fight the drug menace in the “best interests of our youth.”
