Ammon News - AMMONNEWS -The Jordan Football Association (JFA) on Saturday slashed its estimates of financial contributions generated by a November 8 fund-raising telethon to support the national team.
In a statement posted on its website, the JFA put the value of phoney pledges at JD391,000, while contributions made by donors who could not be reached by the association to collect their donations despite several attempts amounted to JD128,000.
Phoney pledges and fake calls accounted for a total of JD519,000, according to the JFA.
The current JFA projections put the total of genuine pledges at JD1.47 million, down from the earlier estimate of JD1.99 million that was announced following the conclusion of the seven-hour telethon campaign, organised by Jordan Television in cooperation with the association.
The JFA said it had collected JD1.29 million, and would get confirmed donations worth JD154,000 in the next few days.
The open-day campaign was organised to support the national team ahead of its World Cup intercontinental qualifying game against Uruguay.
Jordan lost the first leg match with the South American team in Amman 5-0 in November 13 and drew 0-0 in the second leg in Montevideo on November 20.
His Majesty King Abdullah called the programme and presented a donation of JD350,000 for the national team.
