EU inaugurates regional excellence office in Jordan

Ammon News - AMMAN (Jordan Times) — The Middle East Regional Secretariat of the EU Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) Risk Mitigation Initiative was inaugurated on Tuesday in Amman, according to an EU statement.
Representatives from the government, EU member states and several regional partners attended the inauguration ceremony at the premises of the Middle East Scientific Institute for Security, at the Royal Scientific Society.
The EU CBRN CoE is a worldwide EU initiative jointly implemented with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute with a budget amounting to 95 million euros for 2009-2013, according to the statement.
The initiative aims to mitigate chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risks of criminal, accidental or natural origin by promoting a coherent policy, improving coordination and preparedness at national and regional levels and by offering a comprehensive approach covering legal, scientific, enforcement and technical issues, the statement said.
